15 Drown As Car Plunges Into River In Sokoto

No fewer than 15 passengers have drowned when their vehicle plunged into River Rima in Goronyo local government area of Sokoto state after the driver fell asleep and lost control, reports Thisday.

The incident occurred on Thursday night when the deceased persons were travelling back to Dan-Wawaru village, their hometown, from Takakume village in Goronyo council.

Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer, Al-Mustapha Sani confirmed the incident on Saturday.

According to him, it occurred when a Toyota Avensis car which was conveying 17 persons veered off the road and plunged into the river. He disclosed that only two persons survived.

The remains of the deceased have been buried by their respective families, according to Islamic rites, after the corpses were evacuated by the police attached to the Goronyo police division.

State Governor Aliyu Wamakko has commiserated with the families of the deceased for their losses, urging them to take the incident as an act of God. He prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased.
