Emem Eduok has disclosed he is not fit to take part in the screening exercise for the Nigeria U-23 team in Abuja in the meantime.

The Dolphins FC striker, who had an impressive 2013-14 Glo Premier League season scoring 20 goals is part of players invited by coach Samson Siasia for a screening camp aimed at building a new U-23 side ahead of next year’s All Africa Games and the Olympic Games qualifiers.

Eduok, who is enlisted in Batch B of the screening programme suffered a knock during last Sunday’s 2014 Federation Cup final against Enyimba at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

The 2014 Federation Cup MVP and top scorer played the whole 90 minutes as Dolphins lost 2-1. He left the pitch limping after the game and now requires rest.

“I will show myself to the coaches in Abuja as a sign of good faith so they know I want to be part of the team,” he said. “I would have loved to be part of the training, but I do not want to aggravate the injury which does not seem very serious right now.”

“I want to believe Samson Siasia and the rest of the coaching crew will call me up again at some other time.”
