Police Invasion Of NASS Abuse Of Democracy, Says Saraki

Bukola-Saraki-As reactions continue to trail the fracas that ensued at the National Assembly on Thursday between some members of the House of Representatives and the Police, a former Governor of Kwara State, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has added his voice to the debate.

Saraki, who now represents Kwara Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, said the attempt by the police to stop the lawmakers from gaining entrance into the chambers was a display of impunity, which is uncalled for in a democracy.

Speaking to Channels Television on the sideline of an environment summit in New York yesterday, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Ecology said, “If you go by this activity where law and order, constitution, nobody wants to listen and people just want to write their own rules, then I’m worried for next year election.

“There should be a level playing field, people should go and express their rights and whoever wins wins but it’s clear that some people just don’t want to follow the rules.

“Otherwise, where does the police go to a parliament? Where in the world?

“It’s just a total abuse of the democracy and its not just on the parliament, its on all of us.

“If you can do that, then what stops you on the day of election when some people just decide these are the results…and they don’t care? That kind of impunity must stop”.
