Reigning Glo Premier League champions Kano Pillars defeated Dolphins FC 2-0 in the opening game of the 2015 Super 4 pre-season tournament on Saturday.
Samuel Tswanya opened scoring for Sai Masu Gida in the 6th minute courtesy of a long-range effort, and fellow new signing Christian Obiozor doubled their lead three minutes later from a Rabiu Ali’s assist.
Omo Ojabu could have placed Dolphins in ascendancy in the second minute but fired wide following a goalkeeping error by Theophilus Afelokhai.
Dolphins shot stopper Rotimi denied Gambo Mohammed a goal-scoring opportunity in the 23rd minute before Jonathan Zikiye’s 40th-minutegoal line clearance off Obiozor’s effort kept the Port-Harcourt-based outfit in the game.
Afelokhai saved Ifeanyi Egwim’s free-kick in the closing minutes of the first-half, and again denied the Pillars forward moment after the hour mark.
