Roma Make Newcastle’s Yanga-Mbiwa’s Deal Permanent

France international defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has completed a permanent transfer to Italian club AS Roma from Newcastle United, according to the Premier League outfit.

The centre-back, 25, who has made 13 Serie A appearances this season, arrived at the Stadio Olimpico in September on a season-long loan worth £1m with an option to make the deal permanent.

The Magpies confirmed on Tuesday that Roma has remitted the extra £4.5m fee required of them to secure Yanga-Mbiwa’s penmanship on a permanent basis.

The club said in a statement: “Newcastle United defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has completed a transfer to AS Roma after meeting a contractual condition contained in the loan agreement between the clubs.”

Mbiwa joined Newcastle from French Ligue 1 side Monpellier in January 2013 and went on to make 37 league appearances.
