Election: We Don’t Endorse Candidates For Elections, Says CAN

can_logoThe Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria in Lagos State, Apostle Alex Bamgbola, has maintained that the body has not and will not endorse any candidate for the February general elections.

The body said it was necessary to let Nigerians know its stand on the next general elections.

Bamgbola also said CAN had not and would not endorse any governorship candidate in Lagos State.

He said, “It has become necessary to inform Lagos residents that CAN has not and will not endorse any of the candidates for the governorship election.

“We want to assure all the candidates vying for the governorship seat in Lagos State that they all have our support”.

The CAN chairman, however, said in a statement that the body would meet with all the governorship candidates on February 2, 2015.

He added that the meeting was necessary so that the candidates could enlighten the Christian community on their plans for Lagos State ahead of the governorship elections on February 28, 2015.

According to the clergyman, it was imperative to have such discussion so that the church could hold them accountable after the first tenure of whoever wins the poll.

He said, “We want a situation whereby we can hold them by their words. In the past, we have not been involved in who rules us. But now we want a situation whereby we can pray for them as well as remind them of their promises to the people of Lagos. We cannot afford to fail now that we know that a Christian will be governor in Lagos State”.
