ACF Warns Military To Steer Clear Off Political Turf, Denies Meeting With Jega In Dubai

ACF-chairmamThe apex northern socio-political organisation, Arewa Consultative Forum, on Thursday in Kaduna, warned the Nigerian military against encroaching into the nation’s political turf.

The ACF appealed to the military to confine itself to the professional callings of protecting the lives and property of Nigerians, which it swore to uphold.

“We invite the attention of the Nigerian military to its hallowed and constitutional duty to protect the peace, security and survival of our fatherland.

“This is the time for our military to stand behind the people and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which it have sworn to protect”, said ACF.

It said any attempt to militarise the March 28 and April 11 general elections would be vehemently resisted.

The Forum also denied the allegation that it met with the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, in Dubai, in a bid to rig the elections in favour of the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd).

Both Jega and Buhari hail from the North.

The ACF was reacting to the allegation by the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential campaign’s spokesman, Femi Fani-Kayode, that the INEC boss met with some ACF cheiftains in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, all in a bid to return power to the North.

The ACF, rising from a joint meeting of its Board of Trustees and National Executive Council in Kaduna yesterday, said it had already directed its lawyers to look into the allegation and take appropriate actions.

“ACF rejects the allegation that it had a meeting with the Chairman or any member of INEC. This is not true and it’s baseless. ACF has instructed its lawyers to look into the matter and take appropriate legal action”, the ACF said in a communique by its Chairman and former Inspector-General of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Coomassie, in Kaduna on Thursday.

While holding on to the March 28 and April 11 dates as sacrosanct, the ACF warned against any form of interim government being mooted in some quarters, adding that the Forum viewed the attempt to interfere with the INEC as an attempt to further cripple the credibility and integrity of the polls.

The body argued that an interim government contravenes the provisions of the Constitution and must not be allowed to materialize.

Similarly, it added that attempt to prolong the life of the current administration, under the cover of national security, would be resisted by Nigerians

  1. There is no smoke without fire. From all indications, it was very obvious that Jega, Anti People Congress (APC) and ACF were working in tandem. Nigerians will be shocked when the details finally come into the open, for nothing under the sun is hidden.

  2. All I know is that Nigerians are praying, and God is answering. By the grace of God, May 29 will come, and a God-chosen president will emerge. Goodluck or Buhari, God will give us His chosen vessel to do His & d people’s will. Peace will reign. Every advocate of violence is an enemy of God and Nigerians. God bless our dear Nigeria.
