Niger Residents Call For Extension Of PVC Collection Deadline

PVCsResidents of Minna, Niger State capital, on Thursday called for extension of the deadline for distribution of Permanent Voter Cards to enable more registered voters collect their cards.

A check at the collection centres in Minna by the News Agency of Nigeria indicated a massive turnout of residents scrambling to get their PVCs.

Some of the residents, who spoke to NAN, complained of lack of organisation in the process of distributing the cards.

At the collection centre in Maikunkele, Malama Binta Yusuf said that she had given up hope of getting her card after several failed attempts.

Another voter, Mr Ibrahim Salihu, said the elections should be postponed until he gets his card, adding that INEC had four years to prepare for the elections.

“As far as I am concerned, INEC is not ready, despite the fact that they had four years to prepare.

“There is rowdiness as you can see, which should not be so”, he added.

NAN reports that the Niger government had declared a two-day holiday for the collection of PVCs by residents.
