Saul Gets the All-Clear to Return to Training at Atletico

Atletico Madrid have confirmed that midfielder Saul Niguez has already been given the all-clear to return to training by the club’s medical staff and could be available for selection against Cordoba on Saturday.

Saul suffered from a left renal trauma with peri-renal haematoma during the Spanish champions’ Champions League round-of-16 clash at Bayer Leverkusen last month.

The 20-year-old’s recovery from the injury has come earlier than expected and will train with the first-team this (Monday) afternoon. He has already participated in the last few group sessions amongst colleagues who are not on international duty.

The Spain under-21 has been a key figure in the Vincente Calderon fold so far this year, with three goals in twelve league matches including great performances against Eibar and Real Madrid.

His return will add depth to coach Diego Simeone’s squad into the latter part of the season.

Fourth-placed Atletico trail La Liga leaders Barcelona by nine points, but are four points ahead of Sevilla in the race for top-four finish with ten matches left. They are through to the quarter-finals of the Uefa Champions League, where they will face neighbours Real Madrid.
