Odemwingie Poised To Start From The Bench Against Sunderland

Nigerian striker, Peter Odemwingie could return to Stoke City bench for the first time in almost eight months when they host Premier League strugglers Sunderland in Saturday’s afternoon kickoff.

Odemwingie last featured for the Britannia Stadium outfit in their stunning away defeat of champions Manchester City last August.

He has been involved in full training since last week and manager Mark Hughes, speaking in his pre-match news conference on Friday, revealed the 33-year-old could feature against the Black Cats.

“He is in a real good place and is confident,” the Welsh boss told reporters.

“Peter Odemwingie has looked really good, and whilst we don’t want to compromise him, which we won’t, he will be on the bench tomorrow (Saturday).

“It is a real positive for us to have him back in the group and available to get back into the squad again.

“He has put a tremendous amount of work in, his levels of fitness are really good and he has come through everything we have asked of him over the past week or so.”
