Glo NPFL Match Day 5 Wrap Up: Abia Snap Heartland’s Winning Run, Giwa Move Top

Heartland FC’s unbeaten run in the Glo Premier League was brought to an end in Nnewi on Wednesday as champions Kano Pillars were treated to a narrow defeat in Lafia.

Shooting Stars claimed their first win of the season against Kwara United in Ibadan, while Enugu Rangers’ bad run of form continued with a narrow defeat in Port-Harcourt.

FC Taraba 0-1 Enyimba

Mfom Udoh’s solitary strike separated hosts FC Taraba from the visiting Enyimba FC at the Jolly Nyame stadium, Jalingo, earlier in the day.

The Super Eagles forward grabbed the only goal of the match on 58 minutes to take his tally for the season to two.

The Peoples Elephants now have eight points from five games, while Taraba have seven points.

The match was rescheduled for early kickoff because of the curfew imposed on Taraba State following the inconclusive Gubernatorial Polls on 11 March.

Heartland 0-1 Abia Warriors

Heartland’s three-game winning streak came to an end in front of a partisan home crowd at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, at the expense of a resolute Abia Warriors.

Ifeanyi Onyeali’s 88th-minute match-winner cost the Naze Millionaires dear, as they dropped to third on the table with one outstanding game against Pillars.

Abia have racked up seven points from five games, while Heartland have nine points from four matches.

Giwa FC are top of the Glo Premier League standings, thanks to a foursome goal galore at home to Akwa United.

The Jos Elephants were 3-0 up at the break via quick-fire double by Mohammed Saleh on (18”) and Gyang Amos Danladi (20”), as Ocheme Edoh added the third on 25 minutes.

Shuaibu Ibrahim- scorer of the match-winner in the away win at Enugu Rangers on Match Day 4- sealed an emphatic win in the 75th minute.

Akwa United goalkeeper was replaced by substitute Victor Obiowo early on.

Giwa now have ten points from five matches, while Akwa United- 1-0 winners at home to Gabros FC on Sunday- remain on four points.
