Lagos Shuts Roads For Carnival

Some roads in Lagos will be shut on Saturday, May 9, to allow for the participation of residents in the 2015 Lagos Carnival.

This announcement was made a few minutes ago by Kayode Opeifa, the state commissioner of transportation, Lagos.

He said: “Due to the hosting of the 2015 edition of the Lagos Carnival scheduled to hold tomorrow, Saturday, May 9, 2015, road closures and traffic diversions are expected around the TBS, venue of the carnival, and other carnival routes especially in Victoria Island and Ikoyi areas  from 8am to 6pm.”

The affected roads are:

Burdillion Road, Falomo Round About, Awolowo Road, Onikan Round About, King George V Road, Turton Street, Lewis Street, Bamgbose Street, Campos Square, Joseph Streeet, Catholic Mission Street, King’s College, J K Randle Road, TBS Main Bowl.

The state government wants guests with invitation cards to park at any of these designated parks along Inner Marina Road; NPA Car Park, Sterling Bank Car Park, CONOIL Car Park, Shell Car Park, Onikan Stadium Car Park.

Guests without invitation cards are to make use of car parks opposite UBA Building before moving to the venue with free shuttle buses that will be provided.

For those who cannot get to the venue, they can park in Ikoyi and watch the carnival procession from Awolowo Road, Ikoyi.

The government is to provide LAGBUS shuttle services for members of the public from 9.30am from Berger, Mile 12, Oshodi, Ajah and Festac to CMS and Obalende.
