N74m Unpaid Bills: DISCO Cuts Off Power Supply To Taraba Govt House

PHCNThe Taraba State Government House has been plunged into darkness after the Yola Electricity Distribution Company disconnected its source of power supply over N74 million unpaid electricity bills.

According to a report by Daily Trust, the power cut followed the inability of the state government to offset its five months outstanding bills covering January to May 2015.

The electricity company had on April 16 written a letter to the state acting governor, Sani Danladi Abubakar, asking for payment of the outstanding bill to avoid disconnection.

“In line with the new Yola Electricity Distribution Company management’s drive for the collection of outstanding debts owed the company by  electricity consumers under its jurisdiction, a careful examination of our authenticated records revealed that the Taraba State government’s accounts have an authenticated debt of N60,356,978.41 as at April, 2015”, the letter said.

It was learnt that as at May 2015, the outstanding bills being owed the company by the government climbed up to N74 million, a situation which forced the company to disconnect the power supply to Government House.
