EFCC Grants Ex-Gov. Nyako ‘Administrative Bail’

Murtala-NyakoFormer governor of Adamawa State, Admiral Murtala Nyako (retd.), who was detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, has been released.

Mr. Nyako, who fled the country since July 2014 after he was impeached by the State House of Assembly only to return on Saturday, turned himself in to the anti-graft agency on Monday and was immediately detained.

However, the spokesperson for the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said the former governor was allowed to go on what he called “administrative bail”.

Mr. Uwujaren said Nyako, who is 73, was also released based on age and health grounds.

According to the EFCC spokesperson, Mr. Nyako was released at about 7p.m yesterday but asked to report frequently at the commission until the case is fully investigated.
