Osun APC’s Statement On Workers Making Up 1% Of Population Insensitive – PDP

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has described as insensitive and callous the statement credited to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) that workers in Osun state constitute less than one percent of the population.

Speaking on behalf of the PDP, Prince Diran Odeyemi, the Director, Media and Strategy said that the APC has publicly shown to the world that it has lost focus and not responsive to the plight of Osun citizens.

“The APC arithmetic of 1% civil servant is a formular coined for them after the election forgetting that these hard working servants are financiers of over 90% of the populace in the state.”

Osun State’s economy is built on the civil service who have been opwed for the past seven months. Since the government’s inability to pay salaries, the economy of the state has witnessed a downturn with artisans and traders alike complaining of very low patronage.

The state’s 40,000 work force may just be 1 percent of its population but the state’s inability to develop the informal sector has left the economy on the shoulders of the 1 percent that are now being vilified.

Some analysts have noted that Aregbesola has only himself to blame for his state’s misfortune, especially by not developing the informal sector which contributes about 55 percent of Sub-Saharan Africa’s GDP and 80 percent of the labour force. The governor was also slammed over the construction of an International market in Osogbo, Osun State which an average trader in the state cannot afford.
