Why Rivers Will Always Remain A PDP State, Despite APC’s Boast – Wike

Nyesom WikeGovernor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, said on Wednesday that despite the All Progressives Congress boast that it would upturn his victory at the election petition tribunal, the people of the state were still on his side.

Wike, who spoke when some members of the Delta State House of Assembly paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Port Harcourt, assured that the state would continue to belong to the Peoples Democratic Party.

The governor explained that no amount of intimidation would change the mandate the people of the state gave to him on April 11, 2015.

“We are not worried by their (APC) claim that they have the tribunal. All we know is that Rivers State will always remain a PDP State. The people are with us”, Wike said.

“While the APC were busy embarking on negative propaganda because they had excess money, we were with the people at the grassroots selling our programmes to them. That was why they voted for us massively”, he added.

Wike restated that his administration would always respect the principle of separation of powers and promised that never again would the Rivers State House of Assembly sit in the Government House.

The governor also promised to promote the Independence of the legislature by ensuring that the funds of the State Assembly would come as a first line charge.

“You don’t need to pocket the Legislature before you think you are safe in government. What is needed is cooperation with the State Assembly in the interest of good governance”, he said.

Wike said his administration would continue to further regional cooperation in the South-South region for sustainable development.

Earlier, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Monday Ikpuya Okemeni, commended Wike for returning Rivers State to PDP, saying the governor proved the APC wrong with his political clout.

The Delta Assembly Speaker described Wike as a leading light in the political engineering in the country, adding that he will play a key role in the promotion of development of the South-South.

Also, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr Ikuinyi Ibani, said interface between the two State Assemblies was necessary for proper regional integration.

He wish to use his thugs to disrupt the process. After all Fayose is a member PDP govs. He must have share them his style.
