Family Of Jonathan’s CSO Accuses DSS Of Illegally Detaining Him

DSS-masked

The family of former Chief Security Officer, CSO, to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Gordon Obua has raised the alarm over his continued detention by the Department of State Services (DSS).

In a statement issued by its lawyer, Mr. Andrew Itsekiri‎, Obua’s family accused the DSS of illegally detaining the former CSO since Thursday, when he was allegedly arrested at the behest ‎‎of the new Director General of the Service, Mr. Lawal Daura‎.

The family asked the security agency to either release Obua or charge him before a competent court to answer to whatever allegation it has against him rather than detain him unlawfully.

According to Itsekiri, information available to the family revealed that his client was being deprived of food, water and medications.‎

“We can tell the public categorically that as we write, he has not been confronted with any allegation, neither was he given an opportunity to respond to any allegation before he was taken into custody.

“His ordeal began about a week proceeding his eventual arrest last week Thursday, when the Director General of the SSS, Lawan Daura, requested that he should report daily to the DSS headquarters to respond to allegations…”

“On each of the 7 days preceding his arrest, he would report to the DSS headquarters at about 8am in the morning and released to go back home at about 11pm without being confronted with any allegation…

“As we write this, nobody can access him including family members, friends and his solicitors,” the lawyer said.
