The Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday said the alleged forgery of the Senate Standing Order 2015 was a plot by the governing All Progressives Congress to rubbish the leadership of the Senate.
The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Olisa Metuh, who made the claim in an interview with a SUNDAY PUNCH correspondent, said the governing party was after the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, and his deputy, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, as the APC was not comfortable with their leadership of the Red Chamber.
He said, “Our position is that there is no scandal; there is no forgery; there is nothing. It is trumped-up, cooked-up charge just to rubbish the leadership of the Senate.
“The fact that we have the Deputy President of the Senate and the fact that the President of the Senate is not the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, they want to rubbish the leadership of the Senate.
“For us in the PDP, we believe there is a limit to lawlessness. There is no way the government, as presently constituted, can make witch-hunt as a policy, as a policy thrust. In two months we have not seen anything; we have not seen the direction of the government, its programmes and policy direction. The only thing they are reeling out is witch-hunts”.
According to Metuh, the activities of the APC had shown that it planned to break the country.
The opposition party spokesman insisted that senators should be left alone to handle their affairs just as he stressed the need for them to be allowed to enjoy their ‘legislative immunity’.
He said if the governing party keeps meddling in the internal affairs of the legislature, the implication was that lawmakers could be arrested for sponsoring bills termed to be offensive.
“The moment the Police starts getting involved in the rules and procedures of the Senate, it means the legislature has lost its independence”, he added.
“We understand that they want to arrest the Senate President and the Deputy Senate President. We are daring them to try it. If they want to end democracy, they should say it. We also warn them that Nigeria will continue to remain one. The PDP is insisting that Nigeria will remain one and we will do anything for the country to remain one”, he added.

  1. PDP stand on your right once Ekweremadu is arrested Nigerians will resist it and we will all march
to block aso rock,Nigerian police force,Nigerian army headquarters till they kill all of us,fools and stupid APC government.

    • Who will follow you? Nigerians did not vote for Buhari to allow a vital organ of the Federal Government like the National Assembly to be built on nothing! No wonder Nigeria is a laughing stock and is prime for Buhari to halt the rot.

  2. Olisa Metuh you are meticulous in what you are saying. Two months of no direction. Why should APC ever think to remove Ekweremadu when they were in support of Tambuwal remaining as Speaker of Reps, when he defected to APC? That’s why it’s not good to support evil because it will definitely bounce back & that’s what is happening to the so called APC today in the Senate. Their clandestine plans against the leadership of the Senate will end in futile because it is too late. Nigerians are waiting to see the change they promised or the change is to assist terrorists in the country to end our Democratic system of governance? Pls APC, should be guided because their personal & parochial interests should not superseded national interest. Nigerians have accepted Saraki/Ekweremadu led Senate with optimism for a good legislation.

  3. I don’t know what to say about PDP after bringing this country to its knees. For six years innocent people have been killed and criminals roaming around the streets of this country freely without taking any reasonable measure!!! Two months isn’t enough to start talking, y’ll know the steps Mr president is taking is a good one and will lead the country to the promised land. Afraid it will be a slap on your faces huh, well… God help the president, God bless Nigeria…

  4. I. Can’t understand the cries of this Metuh guy! If the police. Findings state that the Senate rule was forged, there’s nothing you can do. It simply shows how PDP as. A party has deceived the poor masses of this nation by falsifying rules, figures and fake achievements.
