Metuh, Lagos Chairman’s Suspension A Nullity – PDP

PDP1The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday described the purported suspension of its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, by a group in the Anambra State chapter of the party as null and void.

The NWC also overturned the impeachment of the Lagos State chairman of the party, Capt. Olatunji Shelle (retd.), by the State Executive of the party.

The PDP said Metuh and Shelle can only be disciplined by the National Executive Committee (NEC) as members of the body as enshrined in the party’s constitution.

These were the resolutions reached by PDP NWC after its weekly meeting on Wednesday as contained in a statement signed by the party’s national legal adviser, Barr. Victor Kwon, yesterday.

The resolution reads in part: “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) notes with concern, misleading reports in some sections of the media that a certain group in Anambra, unknown to our party, has purportedly suspended the national publicity secretary of our great party, Chief Olisa Metuh.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the NWC reiterates that Chief Olisa Metuh is a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and as such can only be disciplined by NEC, in accordance with Sections 57(7) and 59(3) of the PDP Constitution 2012 (as Amended), and that is in the event that a need for such arises. The purported suspension is, therefore, a nullity.

“The NWC restates its implicit confidence in the National Publicity Secretary and expresses satisfaction with his commitment towards the progress and development of our great party at all levels”.
