Sunderland’s Johnson Sidelined for at Least Eight Weeks

Sunderland winger Adam Johnson will be sidelined for at least two months, manager DickAdvocaat has said.

Johnson sustained a shoulder injury during Saturday’s 4-2 defeat at Leicester City.

The English defender will undergo further tests on Wednesday evening, but manager Advocaat expects to be without him for at least eight weeks.

The manager also revealed that central midfielder Jordi Gomez is still sidelined with injury.

“We have Jordi Gomez and Adam Johnson injured and Danny Graham also has some minor problems,” said Advocaat in his pre-game press duties ahead of the weekend games. “Adam will go to the hospital for a scan tonight and then we will know exactly what is wrong.

“It is a serious injury and it will be at least eight weeks.”

Sunderland host Norwich on Saturday, looking to get their campaign right back on track.

Johnson could return in time for the Black Cats’ trip to West Brom on 17 October.
