Why Okorocha Said APC Will Govern Imo For 24 Years

Rochas Okorocha

Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, has advised loyalists of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to stop losing sleep over his earlier stand that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would govern Imo for 24 years.

The governor gave the advice in a press statement signed by his media aide, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, and made available to journalists in Owerri.

“Some members of the PDP in the state, yet to recover from the shock of losing the governorship elections in 2011 and in 2015 consecutively, have been making fruitless efforts to read harmful meaning into that innocent claim of the governor, by trying to compare it with a similar claim by the former National Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Vincent Ogbulafor, some time ago that his party would rule the country for 60 years, which could not be achieved by the party,” Onwuemeodo said.

The Imo State Government also acknowledged “the concerted effort being made by some PDP elements in the state to wrongly situate the claim by the governor that his party would not only become stronger in the state and even in the South-East, but would govern the state for 24 years”.

Onwuemeodo explained that the background of Governor Okorocha’s claim and that of Chief Ogbulafor’s claim cannot be the same.

“That of Ogbulafor was only anchored on federal might they had always leveraged on to indulge in high degree of impunity during elections, while that of Okorocha was anchored on enviable record of achievements by his administration,” Onwuemeodo said.
