Northern Youths Urge Buhari, NASS To Urgently Confirm Magu As EFCC Chairman

Ibrahim MaguA group of northern youths under the aegis of North East Youth Peace Development and Empowerment Initiative (NEYPDEI) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Assembly to urgently confirm the appointment of Acting Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu.

The NEYPEI in a statement by its National President, Alhaji Kyari Abubakar, argued that the immediate confirmation of Magu would impact positively on the ongoing war against corruption by the present administration.

“We are convinced beyond all doubts that the confirmation of Mr. Magu who led a successful investigations against some high profile politicians when he was head of Economic Governance Unit of the anti-graft agency would lead to successful war against corruption”, he said.

Abubakar further explained that the recent promise by Magu to revisit the trial of some former governors whose prosecution and trials were stalled by some technicalities, would bring more positive results in the fight against corruption and other economic and financial crimes in the country.

The NEYPEI leader, therefore, urged President Buhari to expedite action in the confirmation of the Kanuri-born Assistant Commissioner of Police as EFCC Chairman without further delay.

“Magu’s achievements since he joined the anti-graft agency during the time of former Chairman of EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu is legendary and we believe he has the pedigree to champion a new course for the fight against corruption in the country”, he added.
