Yobe: Army Repels Boko Haram Attack On Military Base, Kills 17

Troops (1)As the country got set to celebrate the 2016 Armed Forces Remembrance Day on Friday, security forces were battling Boko Haram terrorists in two villages in Gujba and Tarmowa local government areas of Yobe State.

The security forces killed 17 of the insurgents while repelling the attack on the villages, an army spokesman said.

The terrorists had stormed the Goneri military base in Gujba around 5:50am, spokesman of the 27 Task Force Brigade Command of the Nigerian Army in Damaturu, Lt. George Okupe said, adding that troops repelled both attacks and killed 17, but a soldier was injured in the attack.

Lt. Okupe also said six AK47 rifles, one General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) and other weapons were seized from the militants.

Another group of insurgents on motorcycles were engaged by soldiers around 10:30am at Churokusko village in Tarmowa local government area, about 68 kilometres from Damaturu, but troops ambushed the militants and killed many of them, Daily Trust reports.
