The Sun reports that the former lawmaker was gunned down on February 11, in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Eleanya, who is popularly known as “World Bank” was accosted by the assassins while driving out of his house along Ada George road in the metropolis.

The deceased was a member of the 5th Assembly under the leadership of former governor Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi as the Speaker.

The former lawmaker, who represented Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Constituency, before his untimely death was an unwavering member of the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC).  Some of his colleagues who reacted to his death described it as shocking.

The state’s police command could not be reached for confirmation as at press time.

The murder of the former lawmaker might not be unconnected with political assassination looming in the state. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state recently alleged that there was a plot by certain desperate politicians to eliminate its chairman, Bro Felix Obuah.

The increasing rate of crime in the country is becoming alarming as reports have it that the 4-year-old son of a former vice president’s orderly, Sergeant Mahmood Mohammed was kidnapped by gunmen. The gunmen also abducted three others alongside the boy named Nasirudeen.
