Osun House Of Assembly Passes Land Use Charge Bill Into Law

Osun State House of Assembly yesterday passed into law a bill on Land Use Charge 2016.

Chairman, House Committee on Information and Strategy, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, in a statement in Osogbo disclosed that the bill was passed after it scaled through third reading.

He said leader of the House, Timothy Owoeye, moved the motion for the third reading of the bill, adding that the motion was seconded by Nureni Adebisi (Ede South constituency).

He said the bill sponsored by the executive was seeking to make provision for the Consolidation of all Property and Land Based Rates Law, the Neighbourhood Improvement Charge Law and Tenement Rate Law into a new Land Based Charge, to be called Property Land Use Charge to make provision for the levying and collection of charges and for connected purposes.

Osun State House of Assembly had on November 3, 2015, held a public hearing, where professional bodies and other stakeholders lauded the bill and said it was coming at the appropriate time.

The Speaker, Najeem Salaam, said the bill’s passage was delayed to ensure that affordable rate that would not put unnecessary burden on the people is arrived at.
