Fresh Blast Hits Maiduguri As Suicide Bomber Attacks

A fresh bomb blast caused by a suspected male suicide bomber, yesterday hit Musa Usman Secretariat Main Gate in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, leaving four civilians including the bomber, and two policemen dead, and scores injured.

The male suicide bomber reportedly disguised as a lunatic and attempted to enter the Secretariat, but due to heavy security checkpoint at the gate, he detonated the Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs, strapped on his body killing him and the other five victims including two policemen. The incident took place at about 11:40am.

The area was later condoned off by soldiers and men of civilian JTF before the arrival of Governor Kashim Shettima, his Deputy, Alhaji Usman Mamman Durkwa and other top government officials who visited the scene.

Briefing Governor Shettima, Chairman Borno State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Engineer Satomi Ahmed claimed that only one Policeman was killed and dismembered beyond recognition with other five civilians dead and 6 other seriously injured.

He said the charred bodies of the victims including the suicide bomber and the injured had been evacuated to State Specialists Hospital.

Confirming the blast, Acting Director Army Public Relations, in an email message to Vanguard confirmed the suicide attack.
