Kano Governor Appeals To Lagos Counterpart Not To Relocate Mile12 Market

Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has appealed to the Lagos State government to reconsider its decision to relocate the Mile 12 market because of the economic and social repercussions of such action on the Hausa community traders in the market.

“I discussed with my colleagues, the Northern governors, and I initiated a letter to the governor of Lagos State to reconsider the proposed relocation of the market. The letter was copied to all the Northern governors and the Lagos State governor appeared positive after seeing the implication of relocating the market,” Governor Ganduje said in a statement signed by Alhaji Halilu Baba Dantiye, director general, media and communication.

He noted that the Mile 12 market had similarities with Abubakar Rimi Market in Kano, because both were populated by traders from all tribes in Nigeria.

The governor urged the traders to continue to live amicably in the interest of national progress.

The decision to relocate the Mile 12 market was informed by a fracas last March, which led to the shut down of the market for days.

  1. Lagos State government knows what best suited for her state to function very effectively, and for any outside government iinterference to any decision made by Lagos State Government for the development of the state would be resisted by the people .The pace of development of Lagos can never be compared to any part of the country . So therefore it was il linformed on the part of the Kano state governor comparing mile 12 market to Abubakhar Rimi market in Kano . Lagos is fast becoming an Africa mega city and the only way to succeed though , most of the market like Oshodi mile 2 mile 12 Alade must relocate to far outskirt of Lagos metropolis. Enough of the myopic request letter from far North Governors capable to hinder development of Lagos . These market market removal was the right decision ever make by the Lagos state Government.
