Pundits and fans were left shell shocked after Croatia finished top of Group D at the Euro 2016.

To be sure, it is no mean feat to top a group which has Spain but Croatia did it in style.

Spain came into the final group game as favorite after two comfortable victories in their opening matches.

Croatia were without Modric and just a few minutes into the game were a goal down thanks to a sublime pass from David Silva and a cool finish from Alvaro Morata.

Croatia somehow held on and rallied around after refusing to play dead. They were level thanks to Kalinic’s equalizer and they took the game to Spain.

Against the run of play, Spain were handed a penalty many would argue should never even have been given in the first place.

When Sergio Ramos had his effort saved by the goalkeeper, there was perhaps more than a sense of justice to it.

As the game drew to a close, a drew looked likely but Perisic’s late effort caught De Gea unaware and allowed Croatia to run out 2-1 winners.
