Armed Robbers Attack CBN Convoy, Kill 2 Policemen

In the early hours of Tuesday, armed robbers attacked a convoy of bullion vans belonging to the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The incident was reported to have occurred at Hawan Kibo along Jos – Abuja road in which two mobile policemen lost their lives.

The armed robbers were said to have emerged from a bush immediately after a military check point, and attacked a patrol team belonging the Plateau State security outfit, “Operation Rainbow”, attached to Riyom local government, killing a mobile policeman on the spot.

It was also at this point that the CBN convoy ran into the armed robbers who then opened fire on it.

The incident was reported to have happened at about 8.30 am.

The robbers who were said to be in military uniforms engaged the escort in a shootout, leading to the death of the second mobile policeman, who was in the CBN convoy.

The policeman was identified as Sgt. Anthony Jawa, from Mobile Police Squad (MOPOL) 8, Jos.

Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Tyopev Terna, confirmed the incident and said he was yet to receive the full report from Riyom divisional police.

He said that some policemen were killed, but did not know the number.
