As part of its social responsibilities to host communities, Lafarge Africa Plc, in partnership with the iCare Foundation has commenced the renovation of schools in Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
The Lafarge Renovation Project which focuses on rehabilitating schools for convenient learning visited the Ijede primary school in the axis of Ikorodu community, donating different materials for the renovation of the school building.
The head of Sustainability and Corporate Brand, Lafarge Africa Plc, Temitope Oguntokun, while speaking at the school urged individuals, politicians and organisations to think of developing Nigeria, especially the education sector and youth empowerment.
According to her, sustainable development is not about making money but giving back and contributing to the building of Nigeria.
She added that the renovation project is basically under the volunteering platform of Lafarge Africa Plc.
“We give our time to support our communities because we have volunteers within our organization and also the iCare Foundation as well as their volunteers. It is very important for us to come together as a team to contribute to the rehabilitation of this particular school at Ijede,” she said.
The founder of the iCare Foundation who also represents Ikorodu Federal Constituency disclosed that the project is an ongoing process, adding that people should assist the government in seeing that social, economic infrastructures are put in place.
“Although, the state government has the list of school they are going to rehabilitate, this doesn’t stop individuals from supporting the development.
“This is my little way of giving back to this community by spreading the rehabilitation process and moving around the schools to repair most of the damage things, refix the school furniture, toilet, blackboard, bore-hole, plaster the wall, paint, sweep the floor before the school resume, and as well renovate those buildings that are out of sight,” he added.
Furthermore, he stated that members of the iCare foundation, as well as the Lafarge Africa Plc are very passionate to serve and support the vision to contribute to the development of Nigeria.
“I believe this will also inspire the kids when they come to class on Monday when they see the various structures ,” he said.
