The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Alhaji Yahaya Yunusa Suleiman, has said that members of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) can only be removed at a convention of the party.

He was reacting to the statement credited to the National Vice Chairman of the Senator Ali Modu Sheriff-led faction of the PDP, Dr. Cairo Ojougbo, calling on Senator Walid Jibrin to vacate his seat as BoT chairman.

Dr. Ojougbo, who spoke on behalf of Sheriff, said the faction would be ready for truce only when the BoT chairman and Caretaker Committee Chairman of the PDP, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, stepped aside.

Suleiman, however, called on Jibrin to remain steadfast and committed in resolving the crisis bedeviling the party at the national level.

The party chieftain pointed out that Part 9 Section 32 sub section 1-11 of the PDP Constitution recognizes the BoT as the conscience of the party, and ensures enforcement of highest standard of morality.

Suleiman said that though internal dispute among party members was synonymous with politics, there was the need to handle such issues with utmost care.

“We have observed that instead of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and his group to be working towards resolving their differences with the party, they seem to be extending and creating new ones”, he said.

“Therefore, we in the FCT PDP, join other PDP state chapters to condemn any attack on the BOT chairman, Senator Walid Jibrin”.
