In the end, Kelechi Iheanacho was the difference between Manchester City and yet another embarassing defeat as they drew 1-1 against Southampton at the Etihad stadium.

It is now five matches without a win for Pep Guardiola and even though City remain at the top of the table, there’ll be cause for concern.

Manchester City began with three at the back against Southampton as Captain Vincent Kompany making his first start since April. John Stones and Aleks Kolarov were the other two defenders at the back.

Sergio Aguero made a return to the team while Leroy Sane, Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling played as attacking midfielders.

Despite dominating possession, City were slow on the ball and uncharacteristically sloppy. In the 27th minute, a dreadful error from John Stones allowed Nathan Redmond to give Southampton the lead with their first shot on target.

City introduced Kelechi Iheanacho in the second half and he proved to be the saviour of the draw as he tapped in from a Leroy Sane cross.

Hard as City tried, the Saints remained resolute at the back and had to settle for a point.
