The error was made after the announcer in the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium told supporters that the appreciation was for Sanchez Merino, instead of Enrique Gonzalez Merino.

The club has already apologised for the mistake.

[Sevilla] apologises, a minute’s silence was mistakenly announced in the stadium for Sanchez Merino, rather than Enrique Gonzalez Merino”, it said on Twitter.

Sevilla went on to win the game 2-1 courtesy of an own goal from Ezequiel Garay and a shot from Nico Pareja following a corner 15 minutes from time. They have now moved up to second place in the Spanish La Liga.

Munir scored for Valencia.
