Three Female Suicide Bombers Killed In Maiduguri

Two persons were killed today in an early morning bomb blast in the Umulari area of Maiduguri, Borno State. Police sources said they defused a second bomb before it could go off. The blast occurred as early as 5 am behind Maimalari military barracks in the city.

Sources said the bomb explosion caused panic in the neighborhood and later across the city which had come under siege from renewed attacks by Boko Haram militants.

A soldier said that three female suicide bombers approached the area with suicide vest wrapped around their bodies, one of the bombers was shot by soldiers before they could wreak havoc on the residents.

The soldiers who were on guard at Umarari-Molai outskirts of Maiduguri said they identified the attackers at about 5 am while trying to gain access to Maiduguri; one was shot and wounded while two others immediately detonated IEDs wrapped around their bodies.

According to Civilian JTF source, all the female bombers were about  12 to 15 years of age.
