Preston North End Players Get Sent Off For Fighting Each Other During Game

On Saturday, two Preston North End players were sent off for fighting with one another during the side’s 2-1 defeat by Sheffield Wednesday in an English Football League (EFL) Championship match.

Jermaine Beckford and Eoin Doyle were shown red in the 90th minute of Saturday’s game as Preston chased a late equaliser.

The pair appeared to come to blows after the Irishman failed to play Beckford in for a late chance on goal.

Preston North End’s coach, Simon Grayson, described the duo as an “absolute embarrassment“.

I’ve been in the game for 30 years playing and managing and I’ve never been involved with anything like that,” Grayson told BBC Sport.

I spoke to them in the dressing room and they were apologetic, but that doesn’t wash with me, something like that should never happen in the professional game.

It’s an absolute embarrassment. I stick up for my players at every club I’ve been at… but I can’t stick up for either of those players.”

Beckford meanwhile has apologised over the incident.

He wrote on Instagram:

Noboby’s perfect. [Saturday] I let my passion for the game overtake my awareness of my responsibility as a role model and a professional which I take very seriously. I sincerely apologise to the fans, particularly the younger fans, the manager and Preston North End which is such a fantastic club which I’m honoured to play for. Please accept my apologies. Focus on all the goals so far and all that I intend to score in the very near future.”
