Matches in the elite European club competition have traditionally begun at 7.45pm local time since the tournament’s inception.

However, UEFA is set to adopt the Europa League format of two separate kickoff times, with matches changing to begin at 6pm and 8pm.

The football governing body is hopeful that the changes will allow fans to see more live games than they would with matches all kicking off at the same time.

The announcement is the latest in a line of changes to the sport at the highest level, with FIFA currently considering drastic alterations to the World Cup.
