Girl breaks record by singing national anthems in 76 host countries

A Canadian girl has set a world record by traveling across the globe to perform national anthems in their host countries.

Capri Everitt, 11, has traveled from her home in Ottawa, Ontario to 76 different countries to claim the Guinness World Record for “Most national anthems sung in their host countries in one year.”

Everitt traveled to England, Ireland, Sweden, Greece, Croatia, Germany, Italy, India, South Africa, Philippines and Australia before arriving at her final stop in the United States to perform at a Washington Nationals baseball game.

To claim the record she was required to sing the national anthem of each country in full and in its respective language.

Everitt has been singing and playing the piano since she was 5 years old and began her journey on Nov. 19, 2015 by performing the national anthem in her home country.

She said she was inspired to attempt the record and raise money for SOS Children’s Villages after her aunt gave her the book “The World Needs Your Kid” by Craig Kielburger.

“We read the book and it was about kids who didn’t have any parents and I just decided that I wanted to do something to help those kids,” Everitt said. “These days to get noticed and raise money for your cause you have to do something completely crazy, something that nobody’s ever done before.”

Everitt’s family has kept up with the Guinness Book World Records for years so she was excited to have her name appear in the book.

“For Christmas we always get Guinness World Records books and our grandparents have some from when they were kids,” she said. “It’s very exciting!”
