The House of Representatives on Wednesday lost one of its member, Hon Bello Mashi Sani, (APC), representing Mashi/Dvisi federal constituency of Katsina state.
Announcing the death, the Speaker of the House, Hon Yakubu Dogara in a statement described the late Sani as humane, principled and a cosmopolitan who interacted freely with all members.
“With great sadness, I receive the news of the death of Hon. Bello Sani, who represented Mashi/Dvisi federal constituency of Katsina state,” Dogara said in a statement.
“Our colleague was compassionate, principled, and interacted freely with all members. Our heartfelt condolences go to his immediate family, government and people of Katsina state.
“We pray that God gives all the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
Abubakar Adamu, a Special Assistant to the late lawmaker who confirmed his death said the 51-year-old had suffered protracted illness for several months leading to his death.
He added that his illness became worse two weeks ago and he was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Kaduna.
After spending days there without much improvement, he was moved to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital on Saturday evening where he remained until his death around 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
His remains were on the way to his hometown in Katsina State for burial, Mr Adamu stated.
