Edo University expels three students

Three students have been expelled from Edo University Iyamho, in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State alleged misconduct.

Th‎is was disclosed by the acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor, on Monday during a press briefing ahead of the university’s maiden founders’ day and second matriculation ceremonies.

Aluyor, however, noted that the ‎offences were not connected to cultism.

He said, “Edo University has zero tolerance to social vices and cultism. Even though we are one year old and not having too many students, we had cause to expel three students, not necessary for cult-related activities.

“Edo University has no cultism on campus and to ensure that we do not have cultism, we must have zero tolerance for the kind of activities that can lead to cultism.

“By that, I mean something like two students fighting or a student issuing a threat to other students. Once we identify such a student we show him or her the way out.‎”

The vice-chancellor further noted that the state government had 100 percent ownership of the university, as against the speculation that it was privately owned.

He explained that founder’s day lectures would b delivered on Thursday by a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Augustine Alegeh, SAN; and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo State, Prof. Felix Okonofua.

Aluyor said that the institution had continued to promote qualitative education, since its commencement in 2016, through the provision of modern teaching and learning facilities the Faculties of Sciences and Arts and Social Sciences.

He, however, added that the university had received an approval to begin an academic programme in the college of medicine from the Nigerian Universities Commission.
