Many feared dead in Edo auto crash

Several person have been reportedly killed after a commercial bus collided with a heavy-duty truck on the Agbor-Abudu-Benin expressway in Edo State.

It was learnt that the truck was marked, FST 280 XR, while the the 18-seater Toyota bus had the registration number, MKD 492 XB.

The commercial bus also reportedly had the inscription, NNTCL 670‎ at the back.

‎It was learnt that the fatal accident occurred at about 8pm on Wednesday around Ugoneki and Evbuobanosa near Abudu, in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state.

The casualty figure was still sketchy as of the time of filling the report.

But the state Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Samuel Odukoya, who confirmed the incident at about 9pm, said that four of the passengers died after they were rushed to a hospital.

However, an unofficial source claimed that about 90 per cent of the passengers on the commercial bus heading for Benin from Onitsha in Anambra State lost their lives.

‎A team of FRSC officials from the Abudu unit were said to have been deployed in the scene, after they were alerted by some villagers.

However, Odukoya noted that the official casualty figure would be made public at the end of its operation.
