How Police Foiled Kidnap Attempt On Bishop, Wife – Lagos CP

Men of the Lagos State Police Command have foiled an attempt to kidnap a popular Pentecostal Bishop and his wife at the Isheri Oshun area of Lagos State.

According to an eye-witness, the Bishop and his wife were in a convoy when some armed men believed to be kidnappers intercepted the convoy and started shooting sporadically.

Two of the gunmen were said to have come out from their operational Honda car and opened the Bishop’s car in an attempt to drag them out of the car.

However, the Bishop’s police escort responded and were immediately backed up by a police team who had responded to the distress call.

The combined efforts of the escort team and the reinforcement sent from the Isheri Police Division forced the hoodlums to abandon their targets and flee.

The gunmen were forced to leave their operational vehicle behind as they fled to safety.

The Lagos Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, who confirmed the incident, said the bishop and his wife were rescued unhurt, while the hoodlums escaped with bullet wounds.

Owoseni, who declined to mention the name of the bishop involved, said it was to further protect them from a re-occurrence.

He said: “What would have been a case of kidnapping and armed robbery was foiled by the police, who responded immediately to the distress call.

“It so happened that the escort vehicle in the bishop’s convoy had radioed for help and on sighting the policemen, they fled in different directions, leaving behind their operational vehicle.

“The bishop and his wife were rescued unhurt and we have since carried out raids in the area to see if we can unearth the masterminds. Investigation continues.”
