Female lawyer arrested for allegedly torturing her of adopted daughter

A female lawyer,identified as  Elizabeth Agboje, was among some suspects paraded on Wednesday at the Rivers State Police Command in Port Harcourt as she was accused for  who allegedly tortured her adopted daughter,

According to reports, It was gathered that the nine-year-old Miss Bright Maxson, was first tagged a witch before she was reportedly tortured by her foster mother.

The lawyer, who has two biological children, was said to have continually subjected the girl to all manner of degrading treatments without minding the implication.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmed Zaki, told journalists that Mrs. Agboje was apprehended by the Human Rights Department of the Command for allegedly torturing Bright Maxson.

“The Human Rights Officer of the Command, DSP Emmanuel Ukwenya, arrested one Barrister Elizabeth Agboje, who it was alleged, had been consistently torturing and assaulting little Miss Bright Maxson, nine years, accusing her of being a witch and a thief.

“She is also alleged to have subjected her to all manners of degrading treatments for over seven years. The lawyer is a suspect who has made useful statement to the police and as soon as investigation is concluded, she will be charged to court for proper prosecution,” Zaki added.

It was, however, gathered that the victim, who was said to be sick when she was rescued by the police, had been receiving treatment at the Police Hospital in Port Harcourt.

The state Police Commissioner also explained that the Command had arrested 13 suspected cultists, 11 kidnappers and 10 armed robbery suspects this month.

He pointed out that also arrested was one fake police officer, adding that 18 kidnapped victims were rescued by the operatives of the command.

Zaki said different arms and ammunition were recovered from the hoodlums in their various hideouts.

He added, “On September 5, 2017 at about 0730hrs, suspected armed robbers attacked the business premises of Bet9ja House at Ihuje Community in Ahoada East Local Government Area.

“The owner of the pool house, one West Philip, was killed. SARS operatives responded and a gun battle ensued. One of the robbery suspects was killed, one arrested and one SARS operative sustained bullet wound.”
