LASIEC issues certificate of return to Accord Party councillors

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has presented certificates of return to Oluwafemi Aderibigbe and Segun Olamoyegun of the Accord Party as respective councillors of Ward F and Ward H of the Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area of the state.

LASIEC said the development was in compliance with the ruling of the Lagos State Elections Petitions Tribunal sitting at Ikeja, which ruled in favour of the duo.

Presenting the certificates to the two councillors, the Chairman of the commission, Justice Ayotunde Phillips, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Olumide Lawal, commended the leadership of the Accord Party for reposing confidence in the judiciary.

Phillips, in a statement on Monday, appealed to the two councillors to make life better for residents in their councils.

“Twenty seven petitions were filed by different political parties and their candidates over disputes arising from the July 22, 2017 local government election conducted by the commission, out of which two were determined in favour of the petitioners,” she added.

The Lagos Chairman of the Accord Party, Mr. Olatunde Cole, was quoted as commending the commission for its cooperation during the sittings of the tribunal, adding that the experience had strengthened his confidence in the rule of law.
