Man arraigned before court for stealing N10m from a businessman

A man was brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing N10m from a businessman.

The suspect who is identified as Benjamin Agbogu, whose occupation and residential address were not given, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, ASP Henry Obiazi, told the court that the accused and others still at large committed the offences sometime in April 2016 at Festac Town in Lagos.

He said the accused accosted the complainant, one Chinedu Chukwu, and forcefully stole N10m from him.

Obiazi said the offences contravened sections 287 (5) (a) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused, however, denied committing the offences.

The Magistrate, Mr. B. A. Sonuga, granted Agbogu bail in the sum of N5m, with two sureties in like sum.

He said the sureties must be gainfully employed, must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and must have their addresses verified.

Sonuga adjourned the case until December 5 for mention.
