There are no Record Labels in Nigeria, says Jide Shiwoku

Olajide Shiwoku, Managing Director of Black Carpet Production, has lamented the lack of structural value for record labels in Nigeria as compared to the western world.

Speaking in an interview with The Nation, Shiwoku revealed that there are no record labels in Nigeria as far as he’s concerned.

“To be sincere with you, we don’t have record labels in Nigeria. Record labels are higher levels if we are talking about American standards. We just have promoters. What most people do is promote talent and create tours for artistes,” he said.

He further stressed that “we need cash and experience to run a successful record label in Nigeria.”

On his recently signed artiste, Jayson, Shiwoku said he (Jayson) is leverage for the record label.

He said; “Jayson is one artiste I know is gifted. There is a big difference between talent and gift. Jayson is gifted. He has both gift and talent and he is heavy inside. He is someone that is born into it. He loves music and music is his dream and we are to bring that colour to the world and let the world see his talent.”
