Boy arrested for using Master key to rob cars

Police officers in Enugu State have confirmed the arrest of a 21 year-old man identified as Arinze Agbonlahor for stealing money and other valuables left in parked vehicles during weddings and other ceremonies.

According to reports, Agbo, worked at a car wash facility located around Okpara Square in Enugu metropolis, usually gained access into the parked vehicles with the aid of a ‘master key’.

The suspect, said to be a junior secondary school dropout, was arrested in New Haven area of Enugu on November 18, 2017, while he was removing valuables in a Mercedes Benz SUV during a wedding.

Spokesman, Enugu State Police Command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the development, disclosed that the vehicle, which Agbo was stealing from, belonged to the chairman of the ceremony.

Some members of the public, who caught Agbo in the act, tipped off the police, leading to his arrest.

“He (Agbo) was nabbed by the operatives who had responded swiftly to the distress call received from the members of the public at the Chime Avenue axis of New Haven around 4:00 pm on November 18, 2017.

“The suspect had gone to the area to ransack a Mercedes Benz parked by the owner, who was the chairman of the wedding taking place within the axis.

“He had gained access into the said vehicle with his master key before he was closed up and arrested with the said master key through the assistance of members of the public,” Amaraizu explained.

In his confessional statement, Agbo owned up to the crime, adding that he usually targets vehicles that are parked ‘carelessly’.

Amaraizu said, “He (Agbo) revealed that he usually goes to ceremonies to look out for potential victims, who parked their cars carelessly and then smartly gain entrance into the vehicle to steal money and any other valuables.”

Meanwhile, the Enugu State Police Command has advised members of the public to be security conscious at all times.

Amaraizu said, “The Enugu State Command of the Nigerian Police Force is advising members of the public to be wary of the antics of mischief makers and to be security conscious to avoid falling victims to criminals.

“Members of the public are advised to report any suspicious movement within their surroundings and neighbourhoods to the state command.”
