Finally! Man United Boss Jose Mourinho Reveals Why The Club Paid So Much For Alexis Sanchez

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, has said that they splashed so much on Alexis Sanchez, because you have to “put things in perspective”.

Sources have told ESPN FC that Arsenal were initially quoting £35million for Sanchez in the January transfer window, despite the forward having just six months left on his contract.

In the end, United did not pay a fee, after agreeing to allow Mkhitaryan to move to the Emirates.

Sanchez has signed a four-and-a-half year deal at Old Trafford worth around £350,000-a-week.

“Honestly, I think it was fair. I cannot say that it was expensive because it wasn’t, I cannot say it was cheap because if you add all the values of his contract, it’s not also cheap.

“But I think its a very good deal for us and the player has a fantastic contract.

“It’s a contract according to his qualities as a player and according to the situation.

“We have to put things in perspective.

“How much would Alexis Sanchez cost in normal transfer, club-to-club, as a player with two or three years of contract? We look to the numbers now and I would say roughly between £100-150m. So you put things in perspective.

“I know he has a big passion for football. I know he wanted to play in a different club, for his reasons – that I don’t want to discuss – he wanted to leave Arsenal.

“Obviously, he wanted to be paid according to his quality, according to the perspective and – one thing people sometimes forget – according to the risk.

“The player that lets his contract arrive until the end is a player that is playing and training every day at the limit of risk, a risk other players don’t have,” Mourinho told reporters on Thursday.
