Luis Suarez has wished Steven Gerrard well on Twitter after taking the Rangers job.

The Liverpool icon was named Rangers manager on a four-year contract on Friday, replacing Graeme Murty at Ibrox.

It is the 37-year-old’s first foray into senior management and the Gers’ decision has raised eyebrows in British football.

Nevertheless, Gerrard has received plenty of support from former team-mates and pundits alike, and a very special ex-colleague has also congratulated him.

It’s a risky move by both Rangers and Gerrard, but hopefully for their sake it will prove a fruitful union.

But if the former midfielder is half as good as a manager as he was during his playing days then the Gers have pulled off quite a coup.

Chairman Dave King released a statement last month in which he outlined the necessity of “immediate success”, so Gerrard, despite his profile as a player, will be solely judged on results.
