Oyo govt tears down Ayefele’s N800m radio house

Popular Yoruba musician Yinka Ayefele is definitely not a happy man at the moment after his radio station, Fresh FM, in Ibadan, Oyo state capital was demolished by government.

The demolition of the radio house which is worth N800m was said to have been done because it contravenes the physical planning laws of the state, Oyo govt states.

Oyo state government stated that a notice of demolition which was served expired on Wednesday, August 15.

According to Oyo commissioner for information, culture and tourism, Toye Arulogun, Music House is said to be “structurally defective/poses danger or constitutes a nuisance to the occupier or the general public”.

The commissioner also announced that the state government had previously received petitions in regards to three accidents that took place around Music House.

However the musician rejects government’s submission says the demolition is nothing but a political move. In his words:

“Saying that Music House complex is responsible for three accidents that occurred on the road in the last nine months is just an attempt by the commissioner to run away from his shadow. How can a reasonable person say that?

“It is not news that the governor himself said some politicians came to him to demolish the Music House complex because Ayefele is not in their camp and he also sang against them.”

The Music House, said to be valued at N800 million, has been standing for over 10 years.

The present Oyo government has been in power for seven years.
