Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu, who is also an Oyo State governorship aspirant has also been accused of not participating in the National Youth Service Corps scheme.
Barely one week after erstwhile Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun resigned, Premium Times who also broke the news has reported that Adebayo didn’t do NYSC after graduating from the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in 1978.
Shittu was said to have graduated at the age of 25, completed his programme at the Law School, and was elected into the Oyo State House of Assembly.
According to Premium Times, he graduated in 1978 at the age of 25, and finished Law school in 1979, the same year he was elected into the House of Assembly .
On his part, the Minister said he deliberately skipped NYSC, because “The constitution provides for the qualification needed for state assembly members, NYSC is not there. I didn’t need it to become a member of the state assembly, and that is already a service.”
Nigerians have taken to social media to react
In #Nigeria, u r qualified 2 hold any public office (up to President) wt ordinary schl cert bt if u r a graduate u r disqualified unless u go tru #NYSC (service or exemption). So d system is designed to favour d less educated, no need asking why we r whr we are. Naija I hail o!

Getting a Ministerial job without having the mandatory qualifications like NYSC Certificate is corruption and fraudulent.
It’s strange how Buhari and his appointees seem not to understand this.

The people that said you must do NYSC before you can get a proper job didn’t do NYSC.

If Shittu did not do NYSC and has no NYSC certificate, how did pass the screening in DSS and NASS?
